Prerequisite
The participant must have the ability to demonstrate each of the competitive swimming strokes. Sound communication skills and the ability to voice project in a challenging environment is a must.
Course Details
Incorporating the Units of Competence:
- SRS SWM 001A Apply the principles of movement in water
- SRS CGP 001A Operate in accordance with accepted Coaching practices, styles and legal and ethical responsibilities
- SRS SWM 005A Teach or develop the competitive strokes of swimming
- SRC AQU 013B Collect and analyse information on the philosophy and structure of the Australian Aquatic Industry
This course provides the candidate with the competencies to coach at a basic level and is the pre-requisite to the Bronze License course. They are coaching professionals who are qualified to:
- Coach junior swimmers (i.e. swimmers 12 years and younger) who are in the early stages of competitive swimming development and/or
- Assist a suitably qualified and licensed Coach in the delivery of competitive swimming programs for age group (i.e. 13-18 years) and open swimmers.
- The only pre-requisite for the course is that participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age to undertake the course and at least 17 years of age to become accredited.
- Candidates should participate in all aspects of the course including the practical sessions. It is suggested that candidates obtain a medical clearance prior to participating in the practical activity components of the course if they have any concerns about their health or fitness.
The face to face course has both practical and theoretical components. The participants will be required to demonstrate and be drilled in all competitive strokes, starts and turns.

- Mechanics of Swimming
- Developing the Competitive Swimming Strokes
Cost
$350 per participant. The first year of ascta coach membership is included in this price.
Duration:
The course is 12 hours face to face. This incorporates 8 hours of theory and 4 hours of practical.
Assessment:
An assessment workbook must be completed and submitted within 12 months of attending the course. A nation wide police check must be completed.
Verifcation Validity
4 years. Annual ascta membership is required.

This course is nationally recognised. World Aquatics delivers this training in partnership with SwimEd, the education division of the Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association.
