Course Details

Incorporating the Unit of Competence:

  • SRC AQU 003B Respond to an Aquatic Emergency Using Basic Water Rescue Techniques

This course provides the candidate with the ability to respond to an aquatic emergency using basic water rescue techniques.

There are two options with this course. The Theory and Practical Course consists of approximately 2 ½ contact hours and the Practical Only Course is approximately 1 ½ hours.

Topics include:

  • Industry and organisational requirements
  • Non-swimming rescues
  • Swimming rescues
  • Characteristics of a person in difficulty
  • Factors contributing to minor emergencies requiring rescue
  • First Aid
  • Responding to minor aquatic emergencies
  • Utilising people involved
  • Utilising rescue equipment
  • Putting the rescue plan into action
  • Evacuation drill

Theory and Practical Course: $55.50

Duration:

Theory and Practical Course: 2 ½ hours

These are nominal duration and times will vary according to skill retention and class size.

Assessment:

Competency based with formal practical assessment.
