Course Details
The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Award provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety in swimming pools and confined natural shallow water venues.
The award is valid for 3 years.
The course is approximately 16 contact hours, plus a nominal 20 hours of practical supervised teaching hours and assessment. Topics include:
- Being an effective teacher
- How people learn
- Principals of movement in water
- Planning the programme
- Aquatic Safety
- Becoming familiar with the water
- Floating and movement skills
- Introducing diving to beginners
- Towards efficient stroke development
Cost
$305.00
Duration:
16 hours course work. There is also an on-the-job component.
Assessment:
Formal theoretical and practical assessments.
Verifcation Validity
The course will serve as professional development points towards updating the AUSTSWIM qualification. The certificate remains current whilst the AUSTSWIM is maintained.
Course Accreditation
The course is nationally recognised.
Candidates can complete the course at 16 years of age BUT will not receive certification until they turn 17 years of age.
Candidates cannot be employed until they have received their certificate.
