Swimming Instructor of People with a Disability

Prerequisite

It is recommended that candidates have completed AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Award. Participants must have a basic swimming ability, be able to put their head under the water and have water orientation skills.

Course Details

Incorporating the Units of Competence:

  • SRC AQU 014B Assist Participants with a Disability During Aquatic Activities

This course provides the candidate with the competencies to deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic programs to people with a disability.

This is a correspondence course with a handbook, workbook and text all included in the course fee.  There are practical supervised teaching hours to be completed under the direction of an experienced disability instructor and a formal assessment.  This can be completed in person or the session may be videoed and sent in for review.

A face to face course is also available on request for groups of 10 or more.

  • Awareness and philosophy
  • Groupings
  • Principals of movement in water
  • Entries, supports and exits
  • Teaching approaches
  • Planning and programming
  • Safety and risk assessment

Cost

$185.00

Duration:

The learning is self-paced.  There is also a workbook to be completed and returned for marking and an on-the-job component.

Assessment:

Formal practical assessment and open book quiz in the workbook.
